3D printing with PLA

Polylactic acid printing or PLA is, together with ABS printing, one of the most popular techniques and the most commonly used material by makers. Thanks to how easy it is to print with PLA, highly rigid, resistant, and defined parts can easily and simply be produced. In comparison to ABS, PLA printing has a better surface finish, but its post processing is not as good, and it does have limited uses in temperatures over 50°C.

3D printing process with PLA

Printing with PLA is easier than with ABS, however it is recommended to heat the base to 40 °C. The extrusion temperature must be around 200 °C, and the chamber does not have to be heated, although it is recommended that its temperature be controlled.

Technical specifications of PLA

Color
  • Black; Grey; White; Purple
  • Red; Green; Yellow; Brown; Orange
Features
  • Mechanical resistance: 60 MPa 01.
  • Flexural modulus: 3.6 GPa 02.
  • Shock resistance: 16 J/m 03.
  • Softening temperature: 55°C. 04.
Benefits

Parts printed with PLA are well defined and have a good surface finish, this is even the case with those with complex geometric curves. Components printed with PLA are biodegradable and meet all requirements to be in contact with food. Good rigidity and resistance.

PRODUCT SPECIFICATION

Custom parts of 3D printed PLA

Unlike individual makers who also use PLA for 3D printing, at Addimen we use a premium, top quality, and fully stabilised PLA to obtain excellent finishes, with the best reliability and ease in 3D printing.

The process step by step

1
3D File

Send us your 3D file ready to print.
If you do not have the file, send us the item and we will create the CAD file.
If you need a design from scratch, our designers will gladly prepare a quote for you.

2
3D Printing

We will create the process file adapted to the technology and materials that will be used to produce your item.
We prepare and condition the printer to guarantee optimum quality.

3
Cleaning and post processing

This step is key when meeting your requirements, and it is one that we are highly specialised in.
The removal of the printing support structures, heat treatments, and surface finishes (blasting, polishing, tooling) are some of the most common post processes.
